Love this quote

Mildred Lisette Norman wrote, 'Anything you cannot relinquish when it has outlived its usefulness possesses you. And in this materialistic age, a great many of us are possessed by our possessions'.

I first heard this quote last night while watching "Criminal Minds" on CBS. For those who don't watch, every episode begins and ends with a quote. This one really caught my attention. I did some research and Mildred Lisette Norman is a real person (I'm not always sure the quotes are "real", but this one is). 1. Criminal Minds is one of my favourite shows - and I always look forward to the quotes. So far, every one I've checked has been real! I also have a tendency to collect things, so now I make a conscious effort to only keep those things I am using or have a reasonable expectation of using in the forseeable future. Sometimes it's hard, but it feels good. I sell a lot of my 'excess' stash on eBay, and we have a 'junk' stall at a local market twice a year to clear other excess possessions. It's a lot of fun, and we use the money for holiday treats. And of course, we take lots of things to a local charity shop as well.

  2. I'm guessing all their quotes are real, but I haven't researched many of them. This one just really spoke to me. Yesterday I cleaned out the living room where I had put boxes of stuff that was originally in the new school room. I have a stack of stuff that is leaving the house, but I still need to do so much more. I'm so tired of clutter "ruling" my life! Oh the market sounds like fun! We have a market here that is open all summer and the amish sell fruits and veggies from their farms, there is also a section of "flea market" stuff, but it is expensive to have a place there, more than I would be able to sell.

  3. We are so lucky here, because we have a choice of 5 local markets each month, and the cost for a stall is from $5 to $10. The one I like most - and the best one for selling excess household items - is in a lovely park on the last Sunday of each month, and costs only $5 for a stall site. Lots of people come to buy, and I always enjoy it greatly. Last time we got there at 5.30am and already most of the stalls were gone and people were set up, so we're planning a really early start next time we go.

  4. That sounds wonderful! Nope nothing like that here (at least not that I know of) and you would think where I live there would be. DO they have them year round or just in the spring and summer times? Oh I can't wait for summer! I LOVE snow, but I'm so cold and ready to be warm again!
